Hounslow Highways steps up enforcement
Posted on: July 11, 2019 at 1:51 pmHounslow Highways is continuing to increase the enforcement of grime crime and other offences associated with the highway environment.
Over two days at the end of July, Enforcement Officers targeted 17 key areas of the Borough where litter and waste offences are high and civic behaviour is poor.
These high profile targeted actions resulted in:
- Five businesses receiving formal warnings under the Environmental Protection Act
- Six individuals or businesses receiving Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) for littering or illegal waste disposal
- Five FPNs being issued for littering due to placing domestic waste on the highway outside of collection days
Enforcement officers also reported individual areas needing additional cleansing and the removal of other illegal waste.
CCTV cameras are located across the Borough in known ‘hotspot’ areas and these provide valuable evidence to Enforcement Officers in helping carry out prosecutions and providing details on repeat offenders.
Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “It is a crime to litter our streets and to illegally dump waste. A great deal of effort is made to clean up after those who carry out these crimes and they must be stopped at source. The issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices will continue and increase until the problem of illegal behavior is under control.”
“Hounslow Highways is happy to be working within the zero tolerance initiative of the London Borough of Hounslow and we will see our Borough’s environment restored through this.”
