2 Jan 2024 – Staying Safe in Storm Henk

2024 arrived with a bang with the arrival of Storm Henk. Defined by the Met Office as the eighth storm of the 2023/24 storm season, it caused significant disruption across London and the southeast, including the cancellation of flights at Heathrow, closure of the Dartford Crossing for a time, and interruption to the London Eye as the roof hatch of one of the pods blew off mid-cycle!

In Hounslow, the Operations Hub and additional staff members worked through till late in the evening to deal with local emergencies as they came in.  Over 40 fallen trees and walls were attended to and made safe in the borough, though thankfully, no loss of life or serious disruption to local roads was reported.

Hounslow Highways manages the highways, streets and pavements on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The team manages and responds to all issues on the public highways, repairing roads and footpaths, street cleaning, gully cleansing, road lining, street lighting maintenance, tree, shrub and grass maintenance and carry out special schemes within the borough and a range of other services.

Inspectors and officers monitor the roads and footpaths for defects, but the team also receives around 4,000 enquiries a month through our ‘Report It’ system, which is also linked to the FixMyStreet app.

If you would like more information about the services provided by Hounslow Highways, see a fault, or have a comment on the service, the dedicated Operational Hub team welcomes reports received.
