Improvement works in High Street, Hounslow

Hounslow Highways is carrying out improvement works on High Street, Hounslow, which began on Monday 2 February 2026. We will be aiming to deliver the majority of the works in six weeks, completing the final programme in Spring 2026. This work is part of the commitment from Hounslow Council and Hounslow Highways to revitalise Hounslow High Street, making it cleaner, greener, safer and accessible for all.

A small compound on Montague Road will be set up for the works only, for which access into and out of the High Street for operatives working in the area will be via the end of Montague Road, beside Holy Trinity Church.

There will be slow-moving vehicles and plant using this route at various times of the day, so please be very careful when walking in the High Street. Small areas of work will be sectioned off to ensure inconvenience is reduced as much as possible.

Please accept our apologies for any disruptions caused during works, which are an inevitable consequence of delivering this significant investment into the borough’s streets. However, this will be kept to a minimum to ensure there is no disruption to business and pedestrian movement.

Major Maintenance Programme

The 5 years of major investment invested in Hounslow to transform the roads, footpaths and street lighting assets within the borough was completed in 2018.

Since 2018, Hounslow Highways been carrying out repairs to the footways and roads through a Major Maintenance Programme which focuses on a yearly programme of works dedicated to further improving and maintaining the borough’s highway assets.

Whilst delivering these works, we will aim to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and commuters as much as possible, however there may be times when there may be some inconvenience.

Letter-drops will be sent to those directly affected by the works and advance warning signs will also be erected in the vicinity of the works, particularly where temporary diversions or road closures are involved.

There will be times when you may not be able to park along your road, but we’ll try and minimise this as much as possible and provide advance notice.

We work with the utility companies that provide gas, electricity, telephone and cable services to ensure we coordinate and manage the activities to cause as little disruption as possible.

Please note that Highways England is responsible for the M25 and M4, whilst Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for the A4, A30, A406, A205, A312 and A316.

Hounslow Highways Asset Management Plan

1.1 The Service Provider is responsible for managing the highways asset and street scene for the London Borough of Hounslow under the Highways PFI Contract. The streets are vital to all aspects of everyday life. The Service Provider is committed to a programme of improving the management efficiency of that asset in terms of Customer Service, Safety, Serviceability and Sustainable Preservation of the infrastructure.

1.2 All of these aspects are brought together in this Strategic Asset Management Plan, which is referred to as the Highways Asset Management Plan (HAMP). The HAMP sets out the objectives and targets for delivery and improvement of the Network, procedures for efficient management of the asset lifecycle. The HAMP aims to balance the needs of customers, who expect a high-quality service, with the desire to preserve the integrity and value of the highway network for future generations.

1.3 This HAMP is written to be consistent with all appropriate parts of the associated Codes of Practice, the Contract documents and Method Statements for the Highways PFI and based on the principles set out in BSI ISO 55001:2014. The HAMP is a structured document that sets out:

• The scope, inventory and condition of the existing assets
• A definition of outcome-based ‘Levels of Service’ and asset management objectives
• Planning to achieve the asset management objectives and risk management including the decision-making process, delivery procedures and ‘Lifecycle’ maintenance strategies.
• The evaluation of performance and continuous improvements Recording information and communication

1.4 Hounslow’s HAMP has been in place for a number of years, and with the PFI project the approach to asset management is well defined. A workshop was held on 24th February 2026 with the following objectives:

• Understand any changing aspirations of the Authority;
• Ensure that the plan is delivering the right level of service;
• Report on progress to date;
• Appreciate the needs of the stakeholders;
• and Explain the way forward, based on latest asset inputs.

The output from the workshop has been incorporated within the body of the annual review to continuously improvement the HAMP and asset management system.
