Community Litter Picking Events

Hounslow Highways is proud to support residents and community groups in arranging community litter picking events and provide equipment such as litter pickers, gloves, bags and collection of rubbish.

Hounslow Highways supports Keep Britain Tidy’s national Great British Spring Clean campaigns with the London Borough of Hounslow and have supported over a 100 individual clean up campaigns across the borough.

Keep Britain Tidy’s annual Great British Spring Clean campaign for 2024 is commencing this Friday 15th March and runs through till Sunday 31st March. As you know we already work closely with a lot of you on supporting your litter pick events through the provision of equipment and collection of rubbish, and Hounslow Highways and London Borough of Hounslow are happy to support the campaign and all of you again this year.

The GBSC initiative is a great way to improve our local areas, get the community involved and raise awareness on the environment and how much litter is not being disposed of appropriately.

Please visit the KBT website for more information on how you can involved and if you do want to organise an event. Please email cleaner.greener@hounslow.gov.uk to request equipment, collections and more information.

However, Hounslow Highways also provides this support to clean up events outside of the KBT events, and so as a valued community partner, we are very grateful to everyone’s who is involved in organising clean-up events and working towards making Hounslow a great place to live.

If you tell us about a clean-up event you’re planning, we will be more than happy to provide waste collection bags, and loan of equipment if we are given enough notice (5 working days). We will also collect your bags of rubbish and the return of the loaned equipment at the end of your event. Just email us at businessmanagement@hounslowhighways.org with a competed Litter Picking Events Form, which can be found at the bottom of this page.

However, we would request any residents and community groups consider the safety aspects and social distancing guidelines before arranging a clean-up event. We would also request that anyone wanting the bags they used to be cleared leaves it next to a street litterbin so that our crews can clearly identify its location and access it quickly.

Please note, that HH can only pick up the collected bags of rubbish from the public highway (for example next to a street litter bin) so that our crews can clearly identify its location and access it quickly.  We would also request any residents and community groups consider the safety aspects and social distancing guidelines before arranging a clean-up event.

With this in mind, we are recommending to residents to undertake their own Risk Assessments before the clean-up event, and to use this assessment to identify a suitable location and time for the litter pick before the event takes place. A copy of this Risk Assessment should be sent to businessmanagement@hounslowhighways.org with the request for equipment.

We do not want to restrict any residents in your well-intended actions, but risks need to be identified by the organisers and taken into consideration for your own and others’ safety.

Disclaimer: By providing any equipment in support of local resident clean-ups, Hounslow Highways do not provide supervision and cannot accept responsibility for any injuries/damages sustained from the use of this equipment or organised event.

We look forward to hearing from you!
