Hole in Thornbury Road due to a collapsed sewer

The hole discovered in the southbound carriageway of Thornbury Road at the junction with Eversley Crescent on Tuesday afternoon was caused by a collapsed sewer.

Hounslow Highways began investigations into the hole on Wednesday morning, however excavations ceased when an electrical cable was discovered. This has now been disabled.

Thames Water has assisted Hounslow Highways in the investigation and confirmed the hole is a result of a collapsed sewer.

Thames Water’s rectification works are expected to take approximately 10 days and may involve a road closure.

Hounslow Highways will be monitoring the works closely to ensure the situation is rectified as soon and as safely as possible and local residents will be made aware of any local diversions and closures that may be necessary as the works progress.

Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “We are working very closely with Thames Water to determine the best way to rectify this as quickly as possible.

“We will endeavour to keep disruptions to local residents and road users to a minimum, however we do apologise for any inconvenience.”
