Hounslow Highways was named runner up in the “Quality Improvement” category in the Keep Britain Tidy Annual Network Awards recently.

The awards recognise excellence in the industry and allow organisations and local authorities to share best practice in keeping the country clean.

Hounslow Highways has undertaken a complete review of cleansing processes to incorporate modern technology into inspections and move away from a paper-based reporting method, which was noted in the award entry.

The new systems also ensure enquiries from members of the public are dealt with more efficiently and the local environmental quality is improved.

Hounslow Highways was pipped to the post by Ashfield District Council, which had undertaken a full operational view of its services and increased customer satisfaction by 13%.

Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “We are very pleased to receive this award as it acknowledges the investment and planning that Hounslow Highways has made in systems, training and processes to improve Hounslow.

“It is now our job to use the systems and techniques to build upon cleansing improvements achieved over the last ten months and make a real difference to the look and feel of the borough.”

The awards ceremony was held at The Tower Hotel in London, hosted by Justin Rowlatt.
