Autumn Leaf Clearance Programme Update – October 2026

Posted on: October 16, 2026 at 8:14 am

As we move into autumn, our teams will transition from annual weed removal activities to managing seasonal leaf fall across the borough, helping to keep roads, footways and public spaces safe and accessible. The teams will transfer from weed removal to leaf removal at the end of October, and focus fully on leaf clearance.

Hounslow Highways maintains more than 12,500 street trees on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow, and while the changing colours of autumn are a welcome sight, falling leaves can create slip hazards and obstruct drainage if not regularly cleared.

To help keep roads and footways safe and accessible, our cleansing teams remove weeds during the summer months, and work on leaf removal in the autumn. Using local knowledge and historical leaf-fall data, we plan targeted visits across the borough to manage areas most affected by leaf fall throughout the season.

Residents can view the latest Leaf Clearance Programme below to find out when leaf clearance is scheduled in their area.

Please note that leaf-fall patterns are heavily influenced by weather conditions. High winds, storms, frosts or unusually warm periods can affect both the timing and volume of leaves falling from trees, meaning schedules may need to be adjusted throughout the season.

Together with our regular Ward Based Cleansing programme, the leaf clearance schedule helps keep Hounslow’s streets clean, safe and accessible throughout autumn and winter.

If you experience excessive leaf fall on a road that is not included in the published schedule, please submit a report through our online reporting system. A member of the team will assess the location and arrange reactive action where necessary.

Leaf Clearance Programme 2026/27

Hounslow Highways maintains more than 12,500 street trees on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow. As part of this responsibility, we clear leaves and debris that fall from trees onto the public roads and footways we maintain.

Leaf fall is a natural and seasonal process, and the timing and volume can vary depending on tree species and weather conditions. Factors such as hot weather, high winds, storms and early frosts can cause leaves to fall sooner than expected, while mild autumn weather may delay the start of the season.

To help keep streets safe and tidy, we provide additional resources to support our cleansing teams during the leaf-fall season.

Leaf Clearance Schedule

Our annual leaf clearance programme is developed using historical data and local knowledge of leaf-fall patterns across the borough.

Each ward will receive dedicated leaf clearance visits throughout the season. The programme works alongside our regular Ward Based Cleanse, which covers roads not specifically listed within the leafing schedule.

What About Leaves in My Garden?

Hounslow Highways is responsible for clearing leaves from adopted public highways and footways that we maintain on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow.

Leaves that fall on private land, including back and front gardens and driveways, are the responsibility of the property owner. Our teams are unable to remove leaves from private property.

To help us maintain an efficient service, please avoid sweeping leaves from your property onto the pavement after a clearance visit has taken place, as this may require additional visits and impact scheduled works elsewhere.

How Can I Help?

Residents who would like to support local environmental improvements can get involved in community litter-picking activities across the borough.
