Hounslow Highways, the highways service provider working on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow, has been delivering better streets in the borough for three years.

Since 1 Jan 2013, Hounslow Highways has:-

  • Resurfaced 281km of roads
  • Refurbished 170km of pavements
  • Installed 14,000 new LED street lights
  • Swept the equivalent of 33,000km of roads and pavements
  • Cleared over 19,000 fly-tips
  • Cleared over 15,000 kilograms of leaves
  • Issued 1,395 fines for envirocrimes
  • Received over 88,000 enquiries and 7,000 tweets

Hounslow Highways Service Director, Rob Gillespie, said: “2015 has been a key year for us with improvements to our communication and enforcement. Through scenario hosting with the Metropolitan Police’s Junior Citizen Scheme and local schools with Enabling Enterprise, we have educated over 2,500 pupils about environmental responsibility. Campaign work, in conjunction with Keep Britain Tidy, in addition to regular action days with Hounslow Council and the Police have sustained our joint zero tolerance approach to environmental crimes.”

“Another key focus of the year has been the efforts made to our customer service. The launch of our website’s new Contact page has enabled members of the public to see what has been reported to us and easily subscribe to real time updates. Our Lay Assessor programme has grown with four new residents joining the fold in addition to regular site visits to examine areas where we can improve their ward.”

“We know there is still more improvement work to be done and 2016 will see many of these improvements: the final LED street lights being installed in the borough, the regeneration of Feltham High Street and an upgrade to Augustus Close bridge to name a few. We will work with residents and our stakeholders to ensure that everyone benefits from the continuous improvements to the street scene.”
