Community Clean Ups/Litter Picking Events

test Hounslow Highways is proud to support residents and community groups in arranging community litter picking events and provide equipment such as litter pickers, gloves, bags and collection of rubbish.

Last year, Hounslow Highways supported Keep Britain Tidy’s national Great British Spring Clean campaign and with the London Borough of Hounslow, supported more than 50 individual clean up campaigns across the borough.

We will be doing the same again this year in the Autumn, when the campaign commences.

However, Hounslow Highways also provides this support to clean up events outside of the KBT events, and so as a valued community partner, we are very grateful for your ongoing efforts in organising clean-up events and working towards making Hounslow a great place to live.

If you tell us about a clean-up event you’re planning, we will be more than happy to give you some bags and litter pickers free of charge. We will also collect your bags of rubbish and separated recyclable materials, and litter pickers at the end of your event. Just email us at businessmanagement@hounslowhighways.org with full details.

However, given current Government guidelines which doesn’t recommend more than 6 people from different households meeting outdoors, we would request any residents and community groups consider the safety aspects and social distancing guidelines before arranging a clean-up event.

With this in mind, we are recommending to residents to undertake their own Risk Assessments before the clean-up event, and to use this assessment to identify a suitable location and time for the litter pick before the event takes place.  A copy of this Risk Assessment should be sent to businessmanagement@hounslowhighways.org with the request for equipment.

There is guidance on the Keep Britain Tidy website for residents to consider before carrying out community litter picks at the following address:  https://www.keepbritaintidy.org/get-involved/support-our-campaigns/great-british-spring-clean/clean-preparation-and-safety-advice

We do not want to restrict any residents in your well-intended actions, but risks need to be identified by the organisers and taken into consideration for your own and others’ safety.

Disclaimer: By providing any equipment in support of local resident clean-ups, Hounslow Highways do not provide supervision and cannot accept responsibility for any injuries/damages sustained from the use of this equipment or organised event.

We look forward to hearing from you.
