Hounslow Highways joined forces in summer with Highways England to strengthen the Southall Lane bridge over the M4.

Works included refurbishing of the bridge joints, laying a new road surface and replacing the waterproofing. The works reduce the need for future maintenance and provide further protection for the bridge structure.

Hounslow Highways Divisional Director, Martin Clack, said: “As part of our investment in Hounslow, we are carrying out major renewal works to bridges throughout the borough. Southall Lane, along with Augustus Close, has been our largest investment project in 2016 as we continue our efforts in regenerating Hounslow’s highway network.”

Southall Lane is a key route for commuters and freight travelling between Ealing and Hounslow. It also provides access to some of the largest leisure facilities in the area and an industrial estate.

The works to renew Southall Lane are part of a wider investment undertaken by Hounslow Highways, in which over 160km of roads and 140km of pavements have been resurfaced in the last four years.
