Hounslow Highways paving the way to a better borough

Hounslow Highways is on the right road to making Hounslow a cleaner, tidier, better borough.

Since the contract began, over 2,400 highway defects, including pot holes, have been resolved.

In addition to this, Hounslow Highways has resurfaced more than 34,000 m² of roads and 11,500m² of pavements since January 2013.

Councillor Colin Ellar, cabinet member for environment at Hounslow Council, praised Hounslow Highways for making a good start to their contract but said standards should not slip and continue to rise.

He said: “This is a good start for Hounslow Highways and I believe they are on the right road, but the council, on behalf of residents, expects and demands sustained success.

“We will be working with Hounslow Highways to ensure that together we can deliver a cleaner, tidier and better borough.”

Hounslow Highways has also helped the council to go green by converting 600 of the borough’s 16,000 street lights to energy-saving, carbon-efficient LED lamps.

In addition, 700 tonnes of litter have been picked-up across the borough, 1,206 fly-tipping incidents have been dealt with and 50 pieces of graffiti have been removed.

Rob Gillespie, Hounslow Highways Service Director, said: “We are very pleased to have been able to make such a significant impact on the borough since the start of the project in January. It has been a challenging but rewarding first few months”.

“I would particularly like to thank residents and businesses for their understanding whilst the major work is taking place and encourage everyone to give us their feedback, both good and bad, so we can learn and continue to improve the service right across the board.”
