A safer borough for all

Hounslow Highways is continuing to invest in safety measures on key highways this year across the borough.

A safer borough for all

A new zebra crossing, pedestrian islands and access points on nearby side roads will improve safety around the busy West Middlesex Hospital on Twickenham Road, which will also be widened to allow for increased capacity at the hospital and to ensure that traffic continues to flow smoothly in the area.

As well as continuing the core investment programme, the safety works planned include raising footway levels at major bus routes to separate pedestrians from traffic better, and installing additional street lighting on new footpaths. Works to raise footway levels at bus stops on Staines Road started in January and further access improvements are programmed for three more main roads this year.

Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of the Council commented: “I’m particularly pleased to see the access to the hospital improved.  Safety is the highest priority throughout our highways investment.”

Rob Gillespie, Hounslow Highways Service Director, said: “We have a moral responsibility to ensure that all road users can safely access key services in the borough and these schemes reflect our ongoing commitment to improving the safety of the borough’s infrastructure.”
