Dealing with fly tipping and anti-social behaviour is something Hounslow Council’s enforcement team and Hounslow Highways staff do on a daily basis.

Joint Action Day Part of a Cleaner, Greener Borough!

Last week, they were joined by Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Community Protection and Enforcement plus ward councillors and Hounslow police officers, for a Joint Action Day in Kingsley Road, Hounslow.

The focus there and in surrounding streets was to look at issues of fly tipping and anti-social behaviour and deal with any environmental offences on the spot.

Hounslow Highways deployed mechanical sweepers with a barrow operative sweeping the footways. A graffiti team was also on hand to jet wash areas to remove staining and graffiti as well as removal of fly posting.

During the morning, a fixed penalty notice (FPN) was issued to a member of the public who was caught throwing a cigarette on to the pavement outside Hounslow East underground station.

The group of officers and councillors also spoke to businesses in the area in regards to licensing issues and how their rubbish is disposed of. Officers will be continuing to work alongside the Council’s waste and recycling team, speaking to residents about waste management and the new fortnightly domestic waste collection service.

Martin Clack, Hounslow Highways Divisional Director said; “Joint Action Days are an important initiative for Hounslow Highways. Bringing together different teams from Hounslow Highways and the Council to all work together is crucial to the day’s success. It means that we are able to take immediate enforcement action, whether it’s on littering, commercial waste or any other environmental issues that arise on the day. We have run several Joint Action Days in the past and considering how effective they are with getting immediate results, we’re keen to continue doing more.”
